Thickened and fungal nail treatment in Nuneaton
Thickened nails press on the shoe and can be painful; fungal nails turn yellow, crumbly and hard to cut. Both are very common, especially as we get older, and both can be made much more comfortable.

Reducing thickened nails
Julie thins and reshapes thick nails using a fine burr, taking the pressure off the nail bed so shoes fit again and the nail can be cut normally. It is painless and the difference is immediate.
Fungal nails, honestly
Fungal nail infections are stubborn. Toenails grow slowly, so even a successful treatment takes six to twelve months to show a clear nail. Thinning the nail helps: it removes infected material and lets treatments from the pharmacy reach where they need to. Julie will explain the options, including when it is worth speaking to your GP, and will not promise a cure that cannot be guaranteed.
Preventing recurrence
Keep feet dry, change socks daily, let shoes air between wears, and treat athlete’s foot promptly, as it is often where nail infections start.
Common questions
- Is a fungal nail contagious?
- Mildly. It spreads slowly in warm, damp conditions. Not sharing towels or nail clippers, and keeping feet dry, is enough for most households.
- How long until my nail looks normal?
- A big toenail takes around a year to grow out fully, so patience is needed even when treatment is working. Regular thinning keeps it comfortable in the meantime.
