What happens at your first appointment

Julie starts with a short history: any health conditions, medication, and what has been troubling you. She checks the circulation and sensation in your feet and looks at your skin and nails.

Then the treatment itself: toenails trimmed and filed, hard skin reduced, and any corns removed. If anything needs a different approach, such as a thickened nail or a verruca, she will explain what she recommends and what it would involve.

You finish with your feet feeling comfortable and a clear idea of how often to come back, if at all.

Who it is for

Anyone who finds it hard to reach or cut their own toenails, has hard skin or corns, or simply wants their feet looked after properly. Many of Julie’s patients are older, or have diabetes, arthritis or reduced mobility. Plenty have been putting their feet off for years. None of that is a problem.

Afterwards

Most people settle into a routine appointment every six to eight weeks. Julie will suggest what suits you, and there is never pressure to book more often than you need.

Common questions

Do I need a referral?
No. Book online or ring the clinic.
What should I bring?
A list of any medication you take, and the shoes you wear most. Nothing else.
Will it hurt?
Routine foot care should not be painful. Hard skin and corns are dead skin, so removing them properly is comfortable. Julie works gently and will stop if anything is uncomfortable.

Julie Ford is a foot health practitioner (Dip FHP, MCFHP, MAFHP), not a podiatrist. Where a problem needs a podiatrist or your GP, she will say so and help you get seen.
