Diabetic foot care and assessment in Nuneaton

Diabetes can reduce the circulation and sensation in your feet, which means small problems can become serious without you noticing. Regular checks and careful routine care are the best protection, and Julie sees many diabetic patients at the clinic.

What the assessment covers

Julie checks the pulses in your feet, tests sensation, and looks closely at your skin and nails for pressure areas, cracks, or anything that could break down. She checks that your shoes are not rubbing, and talks through what to look for at home.

Routine care, done safely

Nail cutting, hard skin and corns need extra care when you have diabetes, because a small nick can take a long time to heal. Julie uses techniques suited to diabetic feet and will never use medicated plasters or anything that risks the skin.

Working alongside your NHS care

These appointments complement, rather than replace, your annual NHS diabetic foot review. If Julie finds anything that needs a podiatrist or your GP, such as an ulcer, an infection, or a change in sensation, she will tell you straight away and help you get seen.

Common questions

How often should I have my feet checked?
Many diabetic patients see Julie every six to eight weeks for routine care, which doubles as a regular check. Keep your annual NHS review as well.
What warning signs should I look out for at home?
Any cut, blister or sore that is not healing, redness or swelling, a change in colour or temperature, or numbness and tingling. Do not wait for your next appointment; ring the clinic or your GP.

Julie Ford is a foot health practitioner (Dip FHP, MCFHP, MAFHP), not a podiatrist. Where a problem needs a podiatrist or your GP, she will say so and help you get seen.
